New User Account Setup

Welcome! We look forward to partnering with you to provide the best solutions to support you and your student loan customers. There are just a couple of steps left to complete your new user setup.

Information

To initiate setup of your Great Lakes website account, you must first request access. If you've already done this and have received the New User Welcome email containing your user ID and temporary password, continue to the following steps to finish your account setup.

Step 1

Get a VIP Credential

Great Lakes uses Symantec Validation and ID Protection (VIP) for two-factor authentication, which requires you to provide a security code in addition to your user ID and password for safe and secure account access.

You can get this code from a VIP credential that has been registered for use on schools.mygreatlakes.org. The same VIP credentials can also be registered for use on other VIP member sites, such as other student loan servicers' websites. If you have a "hard" token provided by the U.S. Department of Education to access the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) or Common Origination and Disbursement (COD), you can use that on our website as well. View more information about how to set up two-factor authentication.

If you don't have a VIP credential yet, get one now.

Step 2

Activate Your Account

Once you have your user ID, temporary password, and VIP credential, you're ready to activate your account. This involves:

  • Changing your password and choosing a security question and answer.
  • Registering your VIP credential for use on schools.mygreatlakes.org.
