Great Lakes is committed to doing what's right for our student loan borrowers and business partners, whether it's servicing federal loans, providing grants, or serving as state guarantor. In support of that commitment, we're taking on a new role as state guarantor for Montana, which will allow us to further our mission to help make college a reality for students and their families across the country.
Montana Guaranteed Student Loan Program (MGSLP) transferred their student loan portfolio to Great Lakes, effective October 1, 2017. For more than 15 years, MGSLP has been utilizing the Great Lakes loan servicing system to better serve the borrowers of Montana and to ensure they succeed in repayment. Great Lakes' many years of industry experience has been a compliment to the agency's goal of increasing student access to higher education. Together, they have played a role in advocating for policies that are in the best interest of the borrowers. Officials in Helena and Madison have been working side–by–side to ensure a seamless transition for the borrowers, schools, and lenders in the MGSLP portfolio. This transfer marks Great Lakes' sixth guarantor portfolio since 2009 to be converted to Great Lakes' efficient operational and servicing systems.
